Transport Industry- Cable management Project case study

About the company

A commuter rail system in Southern California which provides a safe and convenient alternative to driving, consists of seven lines and 62 stations operating on 534 miles (859 km) of rail network. The system operates in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties, as well as in Oceanside in San Diego County. This rail system owns several hundred miles of rail; however, it also shares some tracks with freight trains. The system, founded in 1991 as the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA) and adopting the company as its moniker, started operation in 1992. The company is proud to serve as the LINK between six Southern California counties with safe, seamless, and reliable transportation and connectivity. By reducing 9.2 million car trips annually, it has proven to be an effective solution, taking pressure off freeways and reducing gridlock. Their mission is to provide safe, efficient, dependable, and on-time transportation service that offers outstanding customer experience and enhances quality of life.

CHALLENGES

Often for huge companies, when the demand goes up for their business, the need for expansion is one of the challenges that they have to deal with. Higher demands are a sign of healthy management. This would mean capturing and servicing additional locations. But it is an added responsibility, and much more, an additional to the cost. That’s why companies have to spend most of their time investing in resources/ engineers that would provide them with quality service, which would run for a long time. In this case, this well-known Commuter Rail System reaches out to Pm2net for their business expansion needs. They needed someone to support and set up this new office space.

Assessment and solution

Given that Pm2net offers a wide range of services across the state, the team was able to provide resources fit for their requirement. The Pm2net engineers deployed in that location were skilled enough to suggest the best way to install WIFI access points and are well well-experienced in building a closet where the patch panels and switches will be placed. At the end of this, the client was satisfied with the outstanding quality of services that the Pm2net engineers had provided. They were able to pull off the new office space, but the expansion wouldn’t have been a success without the back and technical support that Pm2net engineers had served.

advantages

As technology continues to rapidly change and evolve, one thing remains consistent – the IT infrastructure, namely the cabling, which supports it and keeps everything connected. People tend to look to cut the budget for cabling infrastructure when we should think of it on the same level as your building design and materials. The old thinking of ‘connectivity is enough’ is over and we need to consider how to maximize business opportunities through our infrastructure while decreasing stress improving efficiency and performing a real risk assessment of the business effect of infrastructure failure.
