Financial Services Industry- Smarthands SCCM Imaging project case study

About the company

This natural person credit union is headquartered in Phoenix Arizona is chartered and regulated under the authority of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), and is federally insured up to $1.7 billion. As of October 2018, there are 12 branch locations in the metropolitan Phoenix area, where it is formed by over 125,000 members. The Cooperative was established in 1936 and has grown significantly through the years as a result of merging with the credit unions of other local municipalities, through a conversion to a community charter, and by benefiting from the boom in population throughout the metro Phoenix area. Some of the activities that the credit union is focusing on is the local philanthropic and financial education activities through its Community Services department; which includes pairing with local city governments to provide financial education workshops for their employees, donating scholarship monies for local higher education schools to distribute, organizing an annual holiday celebration for a local school in need, and a lot more

CHALLENGES

The Pm2net team deployed the assigned field services resource in the Arizona headquarters. Upon placement of resources, one of the issues mentioned is how they mismanaged to organize the units (desktops and laptops) to be imaged. The team responsible for preparing this could note how the readiness of these units may help speed out the process. Given the bandwidth of the internet, the Pm2net engineers are limited to processing several units to around 20 laptops and desktops. The process of imaging using the SCCM would take up to 2 hours per batch. After being processed this must undergo the added protocol.

The interval time of processing would have allowed the internal engineers of the credit union to check the completeness of installed programs and applications. The reason for this protocol is to ensure security. However, due to the short number of internal engineers, the process was delayed and took longer hours to finish

ASsessment and solution

The pm2net engineers were flexible enough to collaborate with the internal team to arrange the devices to be imaged. The Pm2net engineers helped out in executing the process as immediately as possible. Jumping on the scope of work, the Pm2net engineers were tasked to image the devices using the SCCM. The mentioned challenges above are as follows; the bandwidth of the internet which limits engineers to process 20 devices at a time, and the tight number of internal engineers which were the only ones tasked to check the completeness of installed programs – Pm2net are not permitted to do internal controls/checks. These are some of the uncontrollable challenges that Pm2net engineers have faced. However, the proactive approach of the Pm2net skilled engineers to eradicate possible errors in any form, in imaging the devices using SCCM would save more time to complete this project. Also, they were organized enough to process the units batch per batch, creating a smooth flow, given the delay in the interval.

advantages

SCCM or System Center Configuration Manager is a systems management software developed by Microsoft that enables administrators to manage both the deployment and security of devices and applications across an enterprise. Through a single console, IT can manage PCs, servers, mobile devices, and virtual machines across various platforms. SCCM allows administrative professionals to give end users access to the devices and applications they need without compromising security. There are various features and capabilities of SCCM that the Financial cooperative may deem beneficial. A few notable features include patch management, operating system deployment, network protection, remote control, and inventory for software and hardware.
