Retail Industry - Security project case study

About the company

This mall is the largest Vietnamese-owned mall in America, consisting of retail stores as well as offering imported products, food, and drinks. Residing in a location where theft and crime rates are issues, there was a need for improvements in security to capture these events and report them to authorities.

CHALLENGES

Resolution

The mall resides in a neighborhood that consists of shoplifting and gang activity at night. With their old analog-based camera systems, visual clarity was very limited. At night, facial recognition and license plate capturing capabilities were nearly impossible. These issues led to a lack of crime prevention as well as a lack of capturing key information, leading to criminal activity being unchallenged.

data savings and cost

The analog-based camera systems also lacked efficiency in terms of data savings and cost, increasing overhead for the owner. With the cameras running 24/7 all night and day, it led to overuse of data and power, and ultimately higher cost.

ASsessment and solution

Had the business owners at this mall knew about the resources and technology available to them, they could have drastically saved on cost as well as quality. With these concerns in mind, expert engineers at pm2net realized it was time for installation of cameras that were more well-suited for their needs and efficient in cost. They proposed several high-resolution Axis cameras, each one with specific capabilities to suit different areas of the mall. PM2NET’s in-house Axis Communications Certified Tech performed a walkthrough of the mall with our experienced installers and collaborated on the best use of the camera capabilities to determine which camera is best suited in each area.

advantages

Their decision to choose this program was due to their need for increased camera resolution.  As a result of choosing pm2net, however, they were able to attain these advantages and even more.  What they realized was that the more advanced Axis cameras had capabilities that led to increased functionality and savings.

Resolution

The Axis P3225-LVE MKII was the main dome-style camera installed at many locations, as well as the Axis (PTZ) Pan-Tilt-Zoom 4K cameras were also installed in the areas that called for them. The Axis P32225-LVE MKII cameras had distinct functionalities that separated them from the mall’s old analog cameras. They were now able to attain license plate information with no issues on clarity as well as attain facial identities when issues arose with criminal activities.

zipstream

By switching to a brand new camera system, they were not only able to capture images of faces and license plates with optimum resolution, but they were also able to utilize zipstream technology to save on data and network bandwidth.  This, in turn, saves money for the end customer by compressing the data sent for review.  For the data that doesn’t move, it utilizes a static image while only sending data for moving objects. This, in turn, sends data much less frequently, especially during long hours when no events are occurring.
